Removing posi unit

Its a 7.5 inch 10 bolt on my lt1 camaro.
I need to remove my posi unit. Well actually whats left of it. It pretty much exploded and took out my set of 3.73's.
It's an eaton posi unit with around 3000 miles on it. 1000 of that was breaking in the rear. another 750 for breaking in the new motor and the rest just driving on.

I've looked at the book and it doesnt really make to much sense to me. I've got the car on jack stands, front tires chocked. Got the rims, tires, and calipers off.
Anyone do this before that can offer some insight? Thanks

Oh and heres a few pics of the damage.

You have to pull the axles too. Then get a 2ft prybar and give it a nice push. It should pop right out.

^thanks got it out. Now my problem is getting the gears off the posi unit. The 10 bolts wont come loose. I snapped one. I tried using an impact gun, soaking them with pb blaster, tried heating them up.

I think the ring gear uses left handed threads. Make sure you are turning them the correct way.

I bet there tight now! they are definatly reverse threaded. Spin em the other way.

Judging by your pictures though why are you bothering removing the ring gear, I see posi parts destroyed. Just toss the whole thing out, it's no good.

^The posi unit is still under warranty from Eaton. So im gonna see if they honor the warranty or not. If not im just gonna save up and upgrade.
