removing the a4 with lt headers
Your earlier 4L60E is a little more difficult because it still has "ears" on the bellhousing. Later models had these cut off. We also cut them off of all our rebuilds.
I believe it will still come out, though. It's just a little tighter.

I never had a problem with the 60E clearing my LTs and trust me I had to change it several times.
I also have an ultrabell on my TH400 and had zero issues installing it with the LTs on the car.

Frank is right, once the ears are gone it is much easier to remove and install. We started doing this modification "cutting the bell housing ears off " back in the late 1970's, and it makes things a lot easier when headers are involved. And yes, there are always exceptions to this, as stated.
I already cut one ear off my pass side bell housing so it should help a little. I was wondering if the trans hanging off the back when the cross member is removed will damage the headers?
