Rearend Swap

A friend of mine has a rearend out of a 89 firebird. It is low miles.. the car was wrecked after about 40K. It is a 3 series differential with disc brakes. will this swap into my 97 camaro? and if so what will it take?

You may have some problems with the backspacing of your rims, and may require spacers. If I remember correctly the third gen rear ends were slightly shorter than 4th gen rears. Hence the deeper dish on the third gen rear rims.

The 3rd Gen F-Body rear (61.72") is exactly 3" narrower than the 4th Gen rear (64.72"). I don't think the center section of the 3rd Gen will have the sensor mount for the 3-channel ABS setup either.

I **think** some of them do.

I'm just going by the dimensional drawings on the Strange website for their direct bolt-in 3rd Gen and 4th Gen replacement axle assemblies.
