Problem with Auto 4l60E in a 95 Trans am
Ok I have been working on transforming my 95 Trans am from the 383 supercharged 6 speed to a stock LT1 with 4l60E. I bought a donor car and transplanted all needed components to my 95 T/A including the stock 3:23 rear end for the A4. Well I took it out today. It runs great and does not have any codes. Speedometer is accurate. Only problem is the trans is sluggish between gears. I can see the trans was replaced recently when I removed the assy from the donor car. I did notice though that the wiring harness was melted that controlled the trans. It was completely melted and was bare and melted together. I replaced all the defective wiring before installing the assy in my car. Being the trans is not wanting to shift firmly, could the solenoids in the trans or computer be damaged from the wiring being burnt and touching one another. I am hoping I don't have to replace the trans. Any ideas?? It will shift if I am not into it hard. If I am just cruising it will shift ok. Not perfect but will liveable. If I am on the throttle trying to get some good speed, Then she wont shift unless I let off. When I am cruising about 50 and floor it, it will downshift just fine and take off but will not up shift unless I let off. Over drive (4th)works as well as the torque convertor lock up. Can I run a datamaster log and test to see if the computer is telling the trans to shift? Please, any ides would greatly be appreciated before I burn her to the ground! LOL

The 4L60E uses an EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid. It's possible that the faulty wiring could have made it fail. Is the fluid still in good condition? There's also a piossibility that the faulty wiring could have done other internal damage.

Yes the Fluid is clean and bright red. Does not smell burnt at all. Where is this EPC solenoid located? Is there any way of telling if it is working correctly by using datamaster?
Well I have another trans that was in good working order. I am gonna remove the valve body, clean it up and try it in the trans in the car. Also going to replace all the solenoids and see what happens.
Ok, before pulling the trans apart in the car I hooked up my Cats tuner and scanned the computer. The shift points look extremely off. I have been messing with the shift points and now I can get it to shift under full throttle at 6000 RPMS. Doesnt chirp the tire but its a good firm shift. Does anybody here have the stock shifting points for a 3:23 gear? I have some off of my brothers Camaro but when I compare them to the ones that where in T/A, they are way off. His shifts 36 MPH under full throttle. The computer in the T/A was programmed to shift at 48 MPH under full throttle. Any input??? Just wanted to make sure if it was alright to just upload his shift tables into my program. Wasnt sure if they may be a little different as his is a 94 Camaro and mine is a 95 Trans am.
Evil, sorry my stock .bin '94 A4 has a 2.73 rear, I thought all A4's in '94 were 2.73 stock and the M6's were 3.23. Have you reloaded the PCM with an A4 .bin load or are you trying to modify the M6 load ?? Try http://www.monodax.com/forums/tunercat-files/ ...use caution as people tend to send out incorrect stuff. In response to your post #3 Yes. Double click in the engine bit status section (upper right section) of a DataMaster file, scroll through the pull-down and double click " Enc Shift A & Enc Shift B " These are the signals sent to the transmission. A/B = 1/1 1st gear, 0/1 = 2nd, 0/0 = 3dr, 1/0 = 4th . If the tranny is shifting OK you should see the RPM start to drop/raise two or three trace records (300-500MS) after the shift is commanded by the PCM.
