Prescribed Pointless?!?!? or Problem?!?!?
I recently purchased my second ls1 f-body, its a 99 z28 and The girdle, axle, differental, suspension, and exhaust had gear oil on them. It appears that the oil might be seaping from either the axles or near the torque arm connects to the rear end. The car runs perfectly fine and makes no noise. I encountered the same problem on my 98 trans am. Is this normal in f-bodies? is my pinion, or axle leaking?
Do all rearends seap alittle?

It's normal ... the rear axle housing is essentially cast iron and gear oil will start to weep through and stain it.
You only need to be concerned if you start to see drops of fluid on the ground ... then you do have a leak ...

I know I have a 94 bird, but the rearends on these cars have remained unchanged since 1993, up to 2k2, just to set things straight here, in case you didnt know, which you probably did, so i can get down to bizniss
My car had fluid leaking from two places, first the pinion seal (towards the front of the diff) and the cover at the bottom. I had the pinion seal replaced, and when i replaced my diff. fluid i used a tiny bead of rtv on both sides my gasket. No leaks, just a little seepage around the pinion, which i believe is normal.
How thick is the covering? If it is all over your undercarriage, then it is a little more than just a seeping leak.
