Question Stereo ? -- LT1

What is the most power I can get out of my stock 94 6.5" bose sub? I changed the head unit and have to buy an amp, but am on a limited budget so getting one that is too much stronger than the sub can handle is pointless.

I don't understand why you have to buy and amp now Believe me, I used to install at circuit city and now I do it at a custom shop, and as an ex owner of the bose system The radio will wire directly in and all the speakers will still play. They will be loud because in effect you are double amplifying the speakers. Otherwise I would not put any other amp to that 6.5, it will blow. It is not designed to handle any more power than the bose amp can push.

If you run into any more problems or questions e-mail me Fastzntn@aol.com

I would recomend buying a head unit to bose adapter and wiring your system the way it is stock. Don't buy another amp by any means! The bose system in these cars is fairly decent. If you want it done by a professional, go to a car stereo shop and have them solder it all up for you. I had the same exact thing done to my car, Head Unit > Bose back in January. I had it done by the stereo shop manager named Jeremy at the Circuit City on Brodie Ln in South Austin. He did an excelent job and I would recomend him to anyone in a similar situation. If the previous owner had the speakers running off of an aftermarket head unit and not the bose amp, you have to connect all the wires the way they originally came to make it all work correctly. I also have personally had to do this on my car. Shoot me an email if you need any help with it. It's not my first rodeo!

Amen! I have done the above on several 4th gen cars and it works great. Not as good as a completely upgraded stereo system but it works pretty good. So often when I tell people they can replace ONLY the head unit and use a $4 Wal-Mart wiring adapter, I'm told it can't be done and the expensive "Bose wiring adapter" is required. I reply back with "interesting because my aftermarket head unit is working fine in my Camaro"

The only thing you have to remember is you must connect the power antenna wire to the switched 12v supply or you won't get any sound out of the speakers

Since this is getting more into the custom stereo end of it, I'll move it to the Custom Car Audio forum

First, thank you cody for looking at my set-up.

Second, we determined that b/c I am all aftermarket except for the sub (I have a Panasonic Head unit and 4 infinity speakers), that i still need an amp. Brent, or anyone else, suggestions??
