Possible Trans Problems.

Recently my transmission has seemed to be slipping under harder than normal acceleration from a dead stop.
What is happening is when i accelerate through first it seems to start slipping at 3000 rpm then rev up to 4000 then slip back down to normal and acelerate fine, only while acelerating in first gear though. Does this mean my transmission is on its way out or is something else that would cause this.
If so how long can i expect it to last just driving it normaly.

Re: Possible Trans Problems.

I'm having the same problem... Everyday i pull out onto a busy road usually half throttle and it will slip to about 4k then drop into gear. Then again i have no problem shifting at full throttle and when im driving it easy. I know nothing about transmissions so i'm hoping someone can tell me as well

Re: Possible Trans Problems.

Might want to mention the year of the car so we know exactly what kind of tranny your asking about.

Why not add a "signature" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, tranny and any major mods?

Re: Possible Trans Problems.

stupid question, but have you checked the fluid? It sounds like its running out of fluid. whats the fluid level and condition like? Pink, burnt, brown, black, etc. Truthfully, unless its pink, or just a little brown and just varnished, not smoked and stinky, its going to have to come out and apart.

Re: Possible Trans Problems.

Update:
I took the car in to a transmission shop to let the mechanic take it for a drive to see if he could figure out the problem. The car will slip in first and second while taking off hard while in drive or over drive around 3000 rpms. But if you manually select first or second the transmission will not slip while taking off hard. This left the mechanic a little confused. Does anyone here know what could be causing this? Could it be an Electrical problem?

Don't wait till it gets worse to fix it. I waited till mine got to just having first and reverse and I'm paying out the *** for it now.

Re: Possible Trans Problems.

Ya im going to get it fixed soon but would like to no if it is something other than needing a rebuild becuase that is pretty expensive. Im asking why would it slip when selected into overdrive or drive while in first and second gear but not when it is manualy selected into first or second it will not slip yet it is still in the same gear.

Re: Possible Trans Problems.

If you go to a reputable shop they'll check for other problems before they rebuild the transmission. When I took mine in they checked for everything else first before they took it apart.

Re: Possible Trans Problems.

With the condition of the oil a rebuilt is probably your solution.
