Please explain difference on a multi-disc to single disc lockup converter!!
Please explain difference on a multi-disc to single disc lockup converter!!
I went to order my converter and the sales rep from Thunder Racing mentioned to me that a multidisc would probably be better for my application because it is a supercharged car. something about durability issues. Also I have heard that vigilantes usually flash higher than their rated stall. Is this true?

Multidisc lockup clutch is what it says, instead of a single disc, there is more than more. More friction area = more holding power.

So rich, which do you think is better for my application (383 stroker with 15lb boost)? The multidisc is alot more expensive and I know most people have the single.
Re: Please explain difference on a multi-disc to single disc lockup converter!!
Depends how you use it. The weak point is going to be the tranny itself (assuming it's a 4L60E) in either case. But if you want to lock it up under WOT with 15psi of boost, you need the multidisc setup. There are two reasons why hi-po track cars using automatics do not generally use lock-up converters in spite of the potential for gains in efficeincy at the big end. No one makes one that is man enough to take the abuse, and some sanctioning bodies do not allow them. The Vig appears to be the strongest lock-up type converter out there.

Re: Please explain difference on a multi-disc to single disc lockup converter!!
So when does the single disc converter lock up? Does it only lock up in 4th at cruising speeds or does it lock up after every gear? and how do I prevent the converter from locking up at WOT?
Re: Please explain difference on a multi-disc to single disc lockup converter!!
As far as I know your convertor should not lockup under WOT unless you manually lock it up with a switch or program it to. Normally it will lock up in 3rd and 4th after a certain programmed MPH.
