What stall are you running and does it do this every time you drive or just under hard launches???

The tranny will go into a limp home mode if there are problems and when it does it only gives you 3rd gear, when you come to a stop and accelerate it normally feels like you are seriously slipping the clutch in a manual tranny car...

Since you state the speedo is reading higher then it should you might have something up with the computer or tune, maybe it is tuned for different gears? But this could mess up when it is supposed to shift and throws it into the limp mode. This also happens (except the spedo part) with high stall cars running an OBD1 computer, but this normally shows itself on hard acceleration or a hard launch...
