I'm going to replace the clutch kit, RMS, pilot bearing, and slave/master cylinder. I'm planning on getting a low profile transmission jack, but wanted to know minimum clearance to see if my jackstands are high enough.
I used 2 ton jack stands at about the height in your picture and was able to clear the low profile trans jack from Harbor Freight (removing the trans from the belhousing). I did need to jack the read end up from the pumpkin once the transmission was separated to clear the car.

Were you able to bring the trans out from under the vehicle or did you just back it off down the trans tunnel to give clearance to pull the bell housing? I'd like to be able to pull it out from under the car and clean it by hand, if not then I will underneath it lol.
I unbolted the trans from the belhousing while the belhousing stayed connected to the block. Once free, I took the jack to the rear end, then rolled the transmission out near the driver side rear wheel. Once the transmission was removed, I removed the belhousing.

Ok cool! Thanks for that, I may end up having to do the same to roll it out from underneath.
when i swapped my trans i got the rear tires up on ramps and put blocks under the front pads. gave me plenty
of room to work and was able to roll the trans out

nice idea about the wood! You were definitely higher than me. I had to go up about 3” on the rear when I was ready.
You can build cribbing out of 2x4 to put under jack stands. You will need a block of wood on top of floor jack to jack the car up high enough. Basically with the car on stands front & rear then using the block on the floor jack raise front and put the cribbing under the jackstands. Do the same for the rear next. The HF tranny jack works great. Pull trans from bellhousing first then remove BH & clutch after
Use the floor jack with block of wood and a folded towel under the oil pan to support the engine so its not just hanging by motor mounts after pulling x member
Point of reference.... long time ago, but as I recall the T56 w/ full fluid weighs about 120#. If you don't drain it, when you pull the driveshaft out, fluid will leak out of the tailshaft housing. We typically cut the conical top off a plastic soda bottle to get the right diameter, push it into the tailshaft housing, and duct tape it in place. Keeps thing neater.
My tail shaft seal was pretty dry and just wiping it this time around caused a small tear. I am not sure how well a bottle work work with older seals. Just food for thought.
You can just drain the trans fluid first.
I bought a plastic "plug" tool for transmissions that is tapered for around $5 at a car swap meet many years ago. Looks like this one https://sdparts.com/i-21050947-power...content=Brands

You have any other pics of those wood blocks? Are they 2x8s? I'm gonna do something like that.
