I know they are "rated" at less but I have seen them perform really well in one of my buddies heads-cam-n20 car and in another buddies supercharged car. I am planning on keeping the motor stock except for the cam so I think it will be ok as long as I dont overly abuse it at the track.

Won't I still have to change the adapter plate on the front of the T56 then to use the LS1 style clutch?

I'm not totally sure on that one. I think so, but I'm not 100% sure.
