LT1 6-speed guys- HD clutch options/opinions
I hate to start a thread like this- and hear the 'use a search' replies...I did- ans finding any real good info is hard on HD LT1 clutches.
Here's the scenerio- 383 LT1 T/A- 408 rwhp(looking to add ~150-200 in spray later). MWC Fab 9 out back. I finally bought a drag wheel setup for the car and have 'real' grip, So I go to the track and toast my Spec 4 clutch.
I am pretty rough on a clutch I guess- busted the springs in the stocker. Put in a stage 2 Spec- it survived til the 383- busted the springs in it too. So I went to the Stage 4, it held pretty good on 315/35 DR's(prolly 20 passes, and 10,000 miles), until this last trip to the track, where 4 passes killed it.
So here's the Meat and Taters...I need a mack daddy of a clutch. I do drive the car on the street a few thousand miles a year. Back when I bought the Spec 4- RAM clutches weren't even out yet, and the McCleod Twim was supposed to be the baddest clutch out...drivable, and holds mega power. Now I see the RAM powergrip HD and they have a twin also. I'd like to hear from people running these clutches.
Just by reading the RAM twin seems to be the cat's meow, But I can't find 1 post from anyone that owns one....

Re: LT1 6-speed guys- HD clutch options/opinions
Don't about the Ram twin but the Mcleod has been around a while is it WORKS. You will find the other weak links in your drivetrain before you break the clutch and it drives great on the street.
Re: LT1 6-speed guys- HD clutch options/opinions
I'm on my 3rd Street Twin, well I need to install the 3rd one this year. I do almost entirely city driving, back and forth to work in the summer. This clutch works GREAT while it lasts, but heavy clutch usage in traffic seems to eat 'em up. I don't get 8k miles on one. I don't know of anything better, but plan to ask McLeod if they have a more durable friction material option for such usage.
