Looking To Lessen Drivetrain Loss Thru A4

I have some fairly noobie drivetrain questions for beefing up the drivetrain of a DD streetcar (1-2 times per year track time) for more power to the ground and a better seat of the pants feel.

What combination of things can you recommend to achieve this?

Would something like a CPT built tranny with a stall for starters lessen drivetrain loss?

4spd auto btw.

And While I'm here, what does a stall do, exactly and will my stock rear be ok with a 3000 or so stall??

A stall will absolutely NOT lessen drivetrain loss, it does the opposite.

It's about equal to the feeling of 4+ lbs of boost on a launch. Meaning it is a very nice SOTP difference.

I went from too much traction to VERY little if I chose so.

And they say an auto in our cars are more difficult to break the rear, but in no way hard.

Reducing drivetrain losses isn't going to provide a major SOTP increase in performance. You can lessen losses with lighter components, like an aluminum or carbon fiber driveshaft, have the axles gun drilled, use a ring gear that has been lightened, have the hubs drilled, use the lightest possible wheels and tires you can find. Then have the rear gears "mikronize" treated and run a synthetic lube. And after all that, I doubt you could feel the difference..... definitely not worth the investment. A tighter converter will reduce losses when its not locked, but its also going to keep the engine out of the sweet spot on RPM.... just the opposite of what a looser, higher stall converter will do. Maybe the auto tranny guys can tell you how to reduce the internal losses in the 4L60E.

Well maybe I worded the question poorly, or I didn't know how to ask for what I want. I'm not looking for bragging rights on the dyno, just more pin me back in the seat feeling.

So a higher stall and lower gears (3:73's) will be a good start, or did I misunderstand?

haha, awesome...It'll be quite a bit of saving up, but I know what I'm saving for now. I think I'll do the stall first then the gears a little later.

Thanks guys. Any other suggestions?

Get a tranny cooler and try to get an experienced installer to help you on the converter. I botched my first one (screwed the pump, and eventually the pooch). I have a fuddle 3k stall I'll sell you that you would need to have cleaned and redone from fuddle. (supposedly under $150)

Also, for cheap gears, try to find a parting out sale on an M6 and pick up the whole rearend. it's only 3.42s, but still way better than my original 2.73s.

I got em for CHEAP.
