Exclamation Leaking T56/ low fluid??

I had to get my 5-6 shift fork replaced about 4 months ago at a very reputable shop in my town. When I went to change the fluid to syncromesh last week I drained the old fluid and only about 2 qts came out! I had never changed the fluid myself so thought maybe when I put the new fluid in it would force the old fluid out the drain plug... No such luck... It took all 4 qts of the syncomesh. Drive the car and the tranny was much quieter and shifted ALOT better and the shifter didn't get real hot like it used too. Couple days ago I was driving and running making a WOT run through the gears and I smelled a little syncromesh but I didn't think anything of it. Now the past couple of days the car is back to its old habits ... Loud, notchy shifting, and the shifter gets kinda hot in traffic.

Question: How can I lose 2 qts of fluid out of this T56 in 4 months and what the best way to check if it's low again and what can I do to fix it!!
