installed B&M Transpak, now...

Before I get any of the people who say "Well that's why the Transgo is so much better..." remember this, I had the choice and I chose to install this one. So please refrain from your un-helpful comments.

Now to the problem, I installed the shift kit without issues - went rather easily. Now that I am able to drive the car, I have found that my shifts are not, in fact, firmer...rather, when tooling around town the shifts are good, yet when WOT the shifts are sloppy and the rev limiter will bounce a few before actually shifting.

What kinds of things should I look for or be looking at? I know that I had one extra checkball, don't ask because I have no idea where it came from. I have all 7 installed in their correct locations, as far as the diagram shows. Might this be a problem?

I'm guessing you might have had some transmission "issues" before you installed the kit.

Not that I was aware of, it would shift just fine prior to the shift kit - albeit a little slower than I would have liked but no major issues that I was aware of.

I do have a 2800 stall on the car w/ tranny cooler and various other engine related "stuff"

Re: installed B&M Transpak, now...

i remmember that problem... a trans with any kind of weakness at all will go down quick with a shift kit, funny that it makes one last longer if its in good condition.. still dont understand that, but hey, mine just got rebuilt and had a transgo kit it and still shifted like that (its backin the shop right now...) i dont remmember any extra check ***** though, i do remember that when mine first started goin down with the shift kit it would hit mid-throttle and lowrpm shifts perfectly, but up high rev limiter and crap shifts every time, hopefully urs isnt doin the same mine was cause shortly after it made one GREAT shift from 1st to 2nd spinnin the tires hard, then it would barely move .. or was that the night i put it in... either way the treans died very shortly after the transgo, but as i menitoned it was on its way out before the install, the transgo just killed the weaknesses it had, burnt what was left of teh clutches and im not sure if it was the cause but my main piston was cracked. if its the same mine was then its your (correct me if im wrong frank) 1-2 band and 3-4 clutch

Re: installed B&M Transpak, now...

I went with the B&M kit in mine as well. I only installed it back in September though, and I took the car off the road in November, so I didn't have enough time to really "get to know" the new setup. From ~1/4 to ~1/2 throttle, the shifts were definitely firmer (it'll give the tires a nice little "squawk" into 2nd) but I went to the track twice after installing the shift kit, and I was having trouble nailing down the right shift point (I had it perfect before hand, using just the Hypertech to adjust the shifts up).

The big change in the kit that I don't really understand the principle of, is removing the springs in the ??? accumulator I think?? ...and putting in solid bushings instead. I'm guessing that's what has really changed the characteristics of the shift, but I really have no clue?! I know that WOT shifts felt a little different, but I can't remember exactly how they were, and maybe I just gotta get used to them?? Sounds like you're in the same boat.

def. in the same boat. I'm gonna see if a buddy has the hypertech I can use to get the shift points changed or even if someone has the ability to flash my PCM and do it that way.

now this i know exactly how to explain cause my tranny rebuilder just explained the same thing ot me the other day! that spring is what makes your shifts "softer" because it allows it to smoothly apply pressure and more slowly, the solid spacer instead of a spring makes it shift harder and faster by aplying the pressuer more directly instead of being softened through the spring (at this point i got squirted with trans fluid because he was giving me an example with an accumulator he had just taken out of another 4l60e ...) anyway it gives it that "firmer" shift feel instead of a slow soft feel
