I need a hardcore 700r4 person's help.

SO here's my problems, maybe a result of sitting for 4 months without driving, or maybe something else. Since i got it back the shifts have been noticably softer than normal (normal = 1-2 tire scratch with little throttle)Nothing really triggered it (past overheating idea has been revoked). The only other thing that MIGHT have something to do with it, is the day before it happened i got on it while it was cold. Heres when i started notciing the problem. I was driving home one night and the 2-3 shift came kind of late.. i thought, maybe it just needs some fluid. parked it, and added about a 1/2 pint the next morning cause it looked a tad low. Drove it to school. on the way, i noticed the late 2-3 shift, and slightly soft 1-2, then no 2-3 and sloppy 1-2, til and almost non existant 1-2 shift, where the rpms would slowly come down (~5-7seconds) from the shift. Also takes 2 seconds to go into reverse when its heated. The problem only happens once the fluid has heated up. I have not checked the pressure yet, but i dont think that will really tell me much since it effects ALL gears and reverse. Manual 1 did not work when i tried it either. I've got an ATSG 700r4 book and have been trying to understand it all, but i'm still no trannie tech. From what i call draw, i think its is something with the pressure regulator being stuck, or a seal somewhere that is letting the thinner hot fluid past, but i dont know how all the flow is directed. Where does it go first? What could prevent it form getting to all the clutches?? I need someone who knows a 700r4 un and down.

Thanks in advance for any help.

anyone? Does anyone atleast know if the fluid goes to the servo or valve body first? After doing mor reading and observing the diagrams, i THINK i've narrowed it to one of the pump vane seals, or the shift kit. Unless the fluid goes to the servo before the valve body. Then it could also be a a seal there.

You may have nailed it when you said "shift kit". There's a good chance your valve body is loose. Warmer fluid is thinner fluid and thinner fluid will leak from places cold fluid won't.

I'm gonna get a gauge tonight and pull the pan and check that. That'd be freakin awesome if it was that, casue i really dont want to pull the tranny and take apart the pump.

Keep in mind that by driving it the way it is, you are doing nothing good for the trans. IF it's only the valvebody gasket or something related to the shift kit, you may have (and probably did) already smoked your clutches. Doesn't take long. Check your fluid; if it smells burnt or is not red like it should be, start saving.

Keep us updated.

oh dude, i'm not driving it. Thats what the corolla is for. I've taken it around a few times to assure the repeatability of the problem, but i was never more than 1 minute from my house when it starts to shift soft so that i have time to get home before it does any damage.

here's some pics of what just came out of my trans. The magnet was full of gunk. The seal/ring that came out looks to be about ~3in diameter. And it looks like there should be more area in the middle that got broken out. My ATSG book has seals and hase orings. Are the orings rubber/buna/whatever, and the seals metal?? That would me narrow it down a little too. Any suggestions from you guys?

Oh and as of right now, the fluid does not smell burnt. It has been cold for 3 days though.
