how MECHANICALLY difficult is a clutch install?

i've searched and read several threads on problems and things like that, including install instructions on Installuniversity.com.

but i'm curious as to how difficult mechanically a clutch install is?

i mean, besides the obvious problems of dropping the tranny (no lift)....

i plan to install a new FW, clutch and slave cylinder on the 99z.

i've been wrenching on various cars and tractors since i was pre-teen, and done many mods on my 87, 96 and now my 99 camaro. this includes valve spring swap, waterpump replacement (87 305tpi), LT header install on the LS1, and alot of other small things.

seems like basic tools, but i'm just wondering if i should even attempt it, or will removing the tranny be such a hassle that i should have a shop do it?

Its not too bad, if you can do LT's you should be able to do the clutch replacement.

Clutch replacement is "mechanically" easy to do. All you do is take off a few bolts, drop down some parts and install new parts. I have done many LT1 clutch installs and the LS1 is very similar. If you run into any problems the guys here on the board can help you out. Since this is your first clutch install I would just plan on a weekend for the swap just so you can take your time. Have fun and good luck!
