First question on this site:
Of course 3.42-4.10's would make the car more fun.
I think my first purchase of a part for the swap is going to be the shifter. The shifter i want to buy is a brand new hurst 6spd short with chrome and comes with a black hurst shift ***. The price is $125.00 is this a good deal?
Thanks
Thanks
Six speeds are a lot of fun, but very hard on driveline parts if any aggressive driving is in the cars future. If you plan to take it to the track once in a while and have sticky tires start saving for a rearend. Maybe you don't plan on abusing the car at all, but if your looking at some track time, stick with the auto. Good luck and keep us posted.
Trust me, gears are neccesary. My 3.73s blew up, all I could find with what money I had at the time was a 3.23 rear. This thing sucks!
Swap was easy, did mine in one day. Hardest part is the damn hole for the master and mounting the pedals.

The 93 was also different from all other LT1's with regard to the T56. It had either the M28 with a 3.36 1st gear ratio and 2.73 rear axle, or the M29 with a 2.97 1st gear and a 3.23 rear axle ratio. All other LT1 T56's had a 2.66:1 1st gear, and a 3.42 rear axle ratio. Which tranny you get will affect the rear axle ratio you want. If your A4 has a 2.73 rear axle (GU2 on the build tag), you will not be happy with a 94 and newer T56 and the 2.66 1st gear. You will want to swap the rear axle ratio for something numerically higher.
The rear axle choice will depend on whether he gets a T56 trans from a 93 with their very steep 1st gear ratios, or from any other year LT1 with the 2.66:1 1st gear ratio. A 4.10 rear is over-kill with an M28.
