Emergency! Please help ASAP

Hey guys.... I'm in a total panic right now... here's the deal

I ordered my Mcleod street twin off of ebay... it came complete in the box as stated... took it to my chevy guy down the street and he installed...

Now i have the most horrible vibration almost anywhere in the power band... but really really bad above 2000 rpm

Because the kit came all together, I assumed that the flywheel and everything were balanced... was I wrong in this assumption???? I hope this is the problem, becuase I'm pulling it out again w/ him tomorrow afternoon... and I'm pretty much clueless right now... please help.. I have to have my Z back on the road by this weekend!!!

Thanks as always guys!

I'm not sure whether you both have the same problem or not, but the McLeod flywheel needs to be balanced the same way as your previous flywheel. If it's a stock balanced LT1, then that's not neutral, or if you've balanced your rotating assembly so that it's neutral w/o flywheel, then it needs to be neutral. If the flywheel is not balanced right, then yes, all hell will break loose...

found out today that the flywheel was out 23 grams = 700 lbs on my crank @ 5k wow that sucks
i think the flywheel was for a external balance

drained the oil out of motor to see if there was any metal it looked clean

No matter what always get your flywheel balanced... even if it's pre balanced from the factory still have it checked... it's worth the extra 20 bucks or so to take it to a shop... better to find the issue while it's out the box... than on the car...

Re: Emergency! Please help ASAP

Just to be sure this is clear for everyone: a stock LT1 rotating assy. requires weight on the flywheel for balance, i.e. it is "externally balanced". If you have non-stock RA, you need to know if it is neutrally balanced or not. If it is, you should be able to bolt up any neutral balance flywheel. Having it checked isn't a bad idea, but it isn't absolutely necessary. If it's an external balance flywheel, it will have a very prominent weight attached on the periphery. Neutral balance will not.
