Driveshaft length
Driveshaft length
I have a 1985 Camaro with a TH350 transmission with a 7.5" stock rear end.
I am going to be installing a Ford 9". Will the driveshaft length change and if so, by how much?
Thanks,
Paul

only a 10 bolt or a strange 12 bolt can re-use the driveshaft
a 9 in or moser 12 bolt needs a different driveshaft
since you have a th350, i dont know if maybe you can use a stock driveshaft
because swapping to a th350 requires a 2 inch longer driveshaft i think, so going to a 9 inch may require about 2 inches shorter, hence stock length, but dont quote me on that

i dont agree, i have a 94 z28 with a 4l60e and a 9" rear and have a stock length drive shaft
85camaro has a 6inch tail 350 which is the same length as a 4l60e so i would say stock length should be fine and the ford 9" also has a couple different length yokes to go with it so if he has the correct rear end yoke he will probly be fine on the stock length
this is also why on my 1999 s10 i used a 6" tail th350 because they are the same length as a stock 4l60e and i have the stock drive shaft on that vehicle also

Don't guess..... measure it. Part of fitting the drivehaft is verifying the correct spline engagement. As HP goes up, you may want more clearance on the slip yoke, before it bottoms out in the tailshaft housing. Picking a DS length based on internet advice is not a good idea.
