new auto tranny break-in

The guy I bought the car from just had a rebuilt tranny installed. Probably has 500 miles on it. I haven't gotten on the car that much, not trying to break anything. But is there a set schedule (like for engine break in) that I should follow for changing the fluids right away. Say 1k miles, then 5k miles? And what synthetic fluid should I run? Redline?

When I got my new transmission I was just careful for about 1k miles, then desided it probably got enough time to set in. Then checked the fluid every so often, and let it be.

Is there a code I could look up to see if I have a tranny cooler?

There weren't any stock auxiliary coolers-just the normal one in the radiator.

What he said. The trans cooler I have is an aftermarket one.

Are you liking the tranny cooler? Since I'm in AZ I was thinking of getting one, heat is bad for everything so it couldn't hurt.

Any thoughts on what tranny fluid, redline or B&M synthetic, or good ole GM stuff?

I use the GM stuff just to keep it consistant. Plus I have a warranty on my trans from GM so I don't want them to complain about anything if it breaks.

I like my trans cooler, it does nothing noticeable obviously, but it helps with the transmission's life. The only problem I've had was the hoses leaked a little bit, but the band clamps just came loose from vibrating, probably. Tightened them up and have been fine so far. I have a 12" x 7.5" x .5" cooler. It takes up most the space in front of the radiator. Took about 2 hours total to install.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any pics or info on the install. Where did you mount it, how much did it cost, etc.

I don't have any pics, but it's just tucked in front of the radiator (look under the nose of the car). Strapped it down with tie raps. Cost me about 40 total since I bought the cooler used and had to buy connectors, hoses, and other junk.
