if you drive a camaro/transam without the torque arm will it make all kinds of grinding noise? i didn't put mine on last night and i pulled the car out of the shop to park it back outside and it made all kinds or racket..like something was grinding under the car???

it has brand new u joints, greased, and a new tranny mount. from where i pulled it out of the shop to where i parked it was about 100 yards at the back of the yard..so it was grinding quite a bit, and especially when i hit a lil dip in the gravel.

yeah I would not do that without the arm on it....the rear just tilts up or down, grinding u-joints tires and everything else

Do not drive the car without the torque arm. You can cause some serious damage to the car.

It's now possible the diff has twisted upwards so may have to do some fandangling to line it back up to get the torque arm on. Pry bar comes in handy. Just make sure not to pry against the undercarriage. I would suggest putting the torque arm on in the very spot you parked it so you do not break something. When you jack it up take all the load off the diff. Hopefully your gears are alright. Wouldn't be a bad idea to pop the diff cover off to make sure.

I can't see that hurting the gears . Could sure screw up those new U-joints though.

How could you keep going with those noises????? Geez, it's not a rental car. Have some respect for the machine!!!

It could screw up the pinion angle to no end causing the gears to mesh incorrectly... so on and so forth.

I don't think so. The pinion bearings may suffer excessive loads, but the "pinion angle" relates to the angle the pinion shaft makes with the rest of the drivetrain, not the way the gears mesh.

while it will not hurt the pinion bearings do not drive the car without it you can do some serious damage to the cars body frame and it can be dangerous to ,I saw the entire rear end come out of one driven that way !

You could probably jack up on the driver's side shock mount (it's the one mounted behind the axle, right? ) and that should "roll" the diff back forward . At least, that's what I'd try first to get the Tq arm back on .

Both rear shocks on a 4th Gen are mounted in front of the rear axle.
