Detriot locker issues

So i finally got my correct length DS installed and the torque arm installed with the correct pinion angle but still more problems have come about. I have a 9" with a detriot locker in it. The problem is that their is a HUGE amount of play in the locker. I can grab the DS and make what seems like close to a 1/4 turn before their is any engagement. I don't have any real problems (well any more than would be expected) with cornering, but when i am driving down the road at a maintained speed the locker unlocks and lock and the car pretty much bucks down the road. I assure you that the play is directly from the rear end, and there is nothing wrong my the U-joints or any other part, but that seems to me like alot of play. However this is my only experience with a locker so i am not sure if it is "normal". I am not really sure what options i have when it comes time to fix it, i may just pull it and go with a spool, but i would love some input. Thanks - Carl

That's pretty normal with a locker. They're pretty twitchy on the street.

When I first got my 9" with the Detroit Locker, it was very jerkey. It would lock and unlock with every turn. Sounded like something was broken in the rear end. After some miles( dont know how many, it is not a daily driver) it is considerably better. I hardly know it is in there. Hopefully some time will cure yours too. Ken

ya everyone seems to agree that they are rough around the corners, and i am fine with the cornering, but i can't deal with the fact that at cruising speed on the street it is so sloppy feeling and it almost seems to be locking and unlocking with every pulse of the car. I dk if this is normal or if i got a bad locker - carl

when the car is off the ground, and the tires can spin freely (neutral), are you suppose to be able to spin the rear end yoke back and forth for almost 1/4 turn with out the wheels engaging and moving????????

I had a locker with my M6 years ago, and had the same issue. I eventually got rid of it for an Eaton Pro Series Posi and was alot happier with it. I now have an auto, and feel the Locker may have performed a little better with an auto. I agree, every little change in the gas pedal would make it seem to lock and unlock. There was quite a bit of play, and it made my shifter real notchy. I liked being able to bang thru the gears with the stock rear. I got that feeling back with the Eaton!
