Post guys runnin lockers..inside please.

I am having a Moser 9" rear put together here real soon......I have a choice between a Detroit Locker or an Auburn Posi.

Obviously a locker is better for racing, but I drive my car everyday, and am concerned with the daily driveability of a locker.

have you had any problems with yours??
are they real noisy??
and does it hinder cornering, cause i like to corner, too???

thanks in advance for replies..

I wouldn't say it hinders daily driving whatsoever. However if you're gonna try to be a cone muncher, and apex a bunch of corners its definetly not for you....

Good luck!

i just recently switched from a locker to a posi. the locker was really noisey and it created alot of slop in my drivetrain. i did not like it one bit.

I have a detroit locker with 4.11s im more annoyed with the rpms on the freeway then the locker. As long as you coast through the turns you'll be ok. The only thing thats kinda annoying is if your cruising at 30 then step on it, you feel it lock up. Not a big problem though. They only "lock" when torque is going through them. Like stated above if you want a Road Racer dont get a Locker...

I have a Moser 9" with Detroit Locker and 3.50 gears.. The only thing I have noticed that is odd is when I drive with my ET Streets on (tall sidewall, no steel belts) if I hit a bump, the car shifts and the locker locks funny.. It has actually caused me to switch lanes.. So, now, I run more tire pressure and don't have any problems.. It's really not bad at all, not like a spool..

Yes it's fast, no you can't drive it.

Ya I have felt the pull to one side also, its kinda weird. But still worth having a locker, the posi will burn out after 3 or 4 water burnouts with slicks at the track.

I run a Detroit Locker in my Moser 9". No problem at speed. Only time it gives me fits is when turning corners at low speed in town. I have to push in the clutch, coast around the corner, then ease it back out or the slop will make the car lurch back and forth. It clicks and clunks in tight turns, but I can live with that because a Detroit Locker is rated to handle up to 750 HP. Also, had the changing lanes problem with wrinkle wall tires until I started running higher pressure in them on the street.

If you're going to flog it at the drag strip, get the locker. Unlike a 12 bolt which has 2 clutch packs in the posi, a 9" posi only has a clutch pack or cone on one side. My old one burnt up in 12 passes.

If you had some extra cash you could snag a 'street' differential and swap them in and out without TOO much hassle with the 9"! Lower gears for the street. That'd be a sweet setup for sure!

my locker is loud and it feels weird when I turn or start off rom a stop. It is definately not for those that want a smooth daily driver but for me I wouldn't have it any other way with my 4.56's...
