Re: deep trans pan???

Most don,t run deep pans due to ground clearance problems.
I myself have a cast B&M deep pan just sitting on the shelf in my garage because installed it is the lowest point on the car. If I were to hit anything the tranny pan would hit first even before my Hooker LTs.
To answer your question it adds about 3 quarts to the stock capacity.

Re: deep trans pan???

Your stock suspension helps you alot there, I would not lower the car if I were you. Hitting the exhaust is bad but not catastrophic. Hitting the tranny pan would do very bad things.
Your oil pan is protected by your K member is it not?

I have a cast pan as well, a stamped steel one may have better ground clearance.

Re: deep trans pan???

A little info about material used on the deep transmission pans:
Stamped steel will dent.
Cast aluminum will crack
Which one will leak after hitting say a speed bump??

Exactly. Which is why that cast pan is going to end up hanging on my wall. I can,t give the damn thing away.

Re: deep trans pan???

I'm running a cast pan on my TH400 with a 10" TCI converter. It took 11 quarts of Redline transmission fluid to fill it up. Headers are more of a problem with ground clearance than the transmisson pan on a first generation Camaro.

Re: deep trans pan???

It will take at least 50 to keep it from being modern art. I paid 3 times that. Besides it will look good in my bathroom.

Re: deep trans pan???

I had the B & M cast aluminum deep pan in my 94 TA, went back to stock depth TCI cast aluminum with the drain. Stock holds 4 quarts, deep adds 3 quarts.

Re: deep trans pan???

You might want to look at the Derale pan. Its steel, but has cooling tubes in the bottom that air flows thru. Its supposed to work pretty well, but not hang any lower than stock, and costs like $75 from Summit...I'm thinking about it and I have a $50 Summit gift certificate....heard some good things on this board about it...

Re: deep trans pan???

I have a TCI cast alum deep pan on my car now, but I'm selling some of my mods to try to keep my car {family $ bind}. I'll sell it if you want it.
It holds 2 extra quarts and requires no filter extension. My Pacesetter LT's hit a high object in the road before it does. My ws6 is stock ride heigth and I don't drive on any roads that I hit anything on underneath.
The only thing I wandered about with the TCI no-filter-extension design was if the higher location of the filter, as opposed to a pan using an extension, was if I could experience feed cavitation in a high g-force situation, like on the launch pad. But I have had no problem with this.

378000 Pan, Cast - GM 700R4/4L60E, 2 extra quarts
