CPT is now "supporting vendor"
For those of you who aren't familiar with us yet, we're CPT (Cahall Performance Transmissions). We specialise in racing 700/4L60E's. We're located in Elkton, Md., but we've shipped transmissions all over the country (and Canada).
I've been building transmissions for 16 years now. Very much of that time (7 years) has been centered toward building stronger 700/4L60E's. Some of the parts that are available to the whole transmission industry were first designed with my input, and were first used as prototypes in my transmissions. This R&D is what allows us the possibility of making these transmission survive in 10 second cars.
I've seen just about everything, and tried just about every part in these units. I know what works and what doesn't. I've also seen too many people get ripped off when buying a transmission. We have a transmission in our shop right now that the customer paid $2700 for. It was nothing more than a stock rebuild with a shift kit. It was built by a company who advertises in the back of HOT ROD magazine. Another customer brought us one that he paid $2600 for. His transmission contained many performance/stronger parts, but there was some part incompatability issues that grenaded the low/reverse sprag. I can't believe that someone who charges $2600 for a transmission didn't know these parts wouldn't work together!
Our business is based off customer satisfaction, and reputation. I can't claim to be perfect. When you're dealing with anything mechanical/electrical there's a chance of problems. If any problem ever arises with our products, we make certain they're taken care of to the customers satisfaction. At present we have a 2% problem rate. Even at that rate, those problems weren't due to any build procedures. They were very rare parts failure issues.
CPT is a new advertiser on this board...but...that doesn't mean I'm new here. I've been here for over 5 years now, because I also own and race my 12.0 second '93 Z, and I've been 10.83 seconds in my cousins '70 Camaro. This board, and my relations with the F-Body community are what prompted the creation of CPT. I started doing this on my own around a year ago, simply because I seen too many people bad mouthing the 4L60E. I knew I could build a better '60E than what was available, and over the past year, I think I've proven that point pretty well...lol.
Our prices are among the most reasonable going right now. We invest a large percentage of that cost in the parts, themselves. We use only the best parts available. Many of these parts are those that others don't use because of their cost! Our 3-4 clutches and 2-4 bands aren't cheap "factory style". We use parts specifically designed for performance/racing. We use billet 2nd and 4th servos in all of our "race", and "pro race" units. Many don't use them because the pair costs over $150 (our cost). Why billet? Because they provide a substantial amount of "holding power" on the 2-4 band. These are much better than the stock "Corvette" servos that most use. They use them because they're free...LOL. All LT1 and LS1 F-Bodies come from the factory with "Corvette" servos.
We get $1000 + hard parts (if any) for a "Race" 700 or 4L60E. A "Pro Race" 700 will cost $1300 + hard parts, and a "Pro Race" 4L60E will run $1400 + hard parts. The "Pro Race" units will more than handle anything running into the low 10's.
Thank You,
Frank Cahall

Re: CPT is now "supporting vendor"
Welcome Frank, glad to see your now a vendor. For anyone that doesn't know, Frank is a great 4L60E builder and has developed a reputation as such. He's in the board often enough to have offered help with technical issues/questions about many things throughout the past even when he wasn't a sponser. I have e-mailed him previously and he always responded very quickly and was alot of help.
BTW Frank, can you PM me some info on your "Pro-Race" setup? I spoke with you before and you recomended a "race" build and the upgraded 4L65E front support.

Re: CPT is now "supporting vendor"
WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!
For anyone intrested I can vouch for Frank and CPT as being the best in the buisness. I have a CPT trans in my car. I was fortunate to have had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with Frank at his shop building my trans. he is the only transmission guy who took the time to show me first hand why his transmissions are better than the rest. Part by part and item by item he custom built my trans to my requirements and needs. Fully explained everything as he built my trans in front of me. I have read all the horror stores about the 4L60E and was concerned about using the stock trans in a racecar. Frank assured me that a 60E could hold up to my needs. I have to say that my trans is just flat out bad to the bone!!!! Look for some new and improved times to come this spring with my CPT trans!
Glad to hear your onboard Frank! Your number 1 in my book and I would highly recommend anyone to you!

I don't have a CPT built transmission because I build my own, and most of the proceedures I have used before logging on to this forum were as a result of what I found through lots of costly trial & error.
But the answers I've found from the 'search funtion' on this board looking for info for my own builds has usually ended in finding the solution posted by Frank which saved me the hassle, time and $ of how I was forced to do it in the past.
I believe "Supporting Vendor" decribes Frank in more than only one catagory.
