converter shudder

noticed somethig strange driving on the interstate a couple days ago. im cruising along about 65 and give it more throttle, about to the point where the converter unlocks. then i get this shuddder/pulsing that feels like the computer is trying to lock and unlock the converter very rapidly, a freequency of probably 5-10 times per second. more throttle and the converter unlocks completely, if i back off, it stays locked up. shudder only seems to happen when i roll on the throttle slowly. if i stab the gas, it unlocks cleanly. its an Edge street edge 3000 with only a few hundred miles on it, and a freshly rebuilt trans. any ideas of whats going on to cause this or is it supposed to behave like this?

does the computer pulse the unlock to make it smoother, but the extra surface area of the clutch over a stock converter make it more grabby and cause it to shudder?

any ideas?

a 94 should not have PWM there could be a presure problem or a lockup clutch
problem . 94s are a simple on or off operation .

Sounds like a converter clutch issue. I've seen quite a few clutch issues in Edge converters...Even in brand new converters.

Personally, no. All of our customers using Fuddle are happy with them.

is this something thats going to fail catastrophically and take out the transmission with it? or just minor annoyance? im not too sure of the severity of it.

With a shudder, you're probably seeing signs of the lock-up clutch burning up. You'll shed whatever debris from that into the transmission.
