changing fluids
Re: changing fluids
jack up the car
remove fill hole plug
use a syringe for automotive fluids (autozone and walmart have them I think)
(basically its a hand pump so you will suck fluid out of the tranny and put it into another container.. once you are done, you will reverse it and pull tranny fluid from the container and put it into the tranny..
its pretty easy but can be a messy PITA.. hehe
good luck!

Auto or Manual??
Not all autos have a trans drain plug... i wish they did tho!....
Auto: Jack the car up, preferably level.. Remove all but each corner bolt from the trans pan.. Remove the back or the front two while holding the pan to the trans.. SLOWLY lower the trand pan as to not make so much of a mess... Remove the other two bolts..
AUTO Filter Removal: Maybe a 10 mil bolt holding the filter to the valve body, remove and pull filter down. Feel inside valve body w/ finger, where filter goes, to be sure the gasket came out... Replace NEW gasket on to NEW filter, replace filter/ nut assy into V.B... Clean mating surfaces, pan to trans case.. Use Brake clean or degreaser fluid. Place gasket on pan, no harm in using a SMALL ammount of RTV to hold gasket.. Replace all bolts, TQ to recomended specs.. I usually do about 15 FT/LBS.. TQ in a cross pattern like doing wheel lugs... MUST TQ OR IT WILL LEAK! Fill w/ fluid, through dipstick tube or another specified fill location.. 3-8 qts, prolly... once "filled" give her a little power brake in each manual gear to ensure each valley is getting fluid... Be sure to check in park when fully warmed up... ( ::ahem:: Power braking warms it quicker)
MANUAL... Look for a drain plug on bottom or lower side of transmission case, prolly allen head or 3/8" SQ female... Remove plug and drain.. Wouldn't hurt to stick a magnet in there to grab any metallic pieces... The vaccuum idea wouldn't hurt either...
Replace plug and fill through another allen plug about half way up the side of the trans.. When the fluid seeps out, it's full... Check ASE/ GM on fluid specifications..
Walked ya through it.... hope that helps... You're right, it's not hard...
