Buying a used converter, some questions

Right now I'm looking at trading/buying a Yank PY3600 with less than 10k on it but he bought it used a while ago and hasent put it in a car yet. How can I find out if it is still 100% functional? Is there any bench tests a competent shop can perform on it? If i get yank the serial # can they tell me if the 1 restall is still good?
I still have to call Yank and make sure its right for my combo but from what I read on their website it looks good (hot-cam'ed forged 355 with pretty much full bolt ons (no ewp) and I should be running a 150 wet shot in the spring)

Thanks in advnce

Not really anything you can do except send it back to the manufacturer and have it checked over. They cut it open, inspect it, repair as needed and weld it back up. $100-150 cost is what you are looking at.

Agreed dont just put it in there and hope a converter can kill a trans then the money saved will be lost many times over at least have it checked and if its going to cost to much just buy a new one

I would only buy a used converter from someone I knew.

Buying a used converter is always a hit or miss. There have been people on here who have bought used converters only to put them on their car and find that they are junk. I don't know how much you are going to get the converter for, but once you add the inspection cost on top of that, it might not be too far off the cost of buying one brand new.

Allright I'll call yank on monday and see about how much a rebuild would cost but the deal would be a yank py3600 for a set of coated pasesetter lt's and y pipe off a parts car I have and each other pays shipping, so when it comes down to it even after a rebuild i would only be out $250 instead of $895 for a new one. Is there any negatives about a rebuilt one from yank vs a new one.

A factory freshened converter will be fine.
