B&M trick shift

Was curious about B&M trick shift non synthetic fluid. Is it any good. I am about the do a shift kit and was to change the fluid. Is it a good idea to use that fluid or just regualr ATF. I know there will be a bit of fluid in the converter and don't know if mixing the two kinds would be ok or not. Or will this cause more problems in the future?

We suggest regular Dexron III / Mercon in everything, except Chrysler lock-up's and Hondas.

Re: B&M trick shift

Last season I used regular Valvoline DexIII, this season I tried the Trick Shift when I changed fluid...not one single difference anywhere, shifting was the same and trans temps were identical...so IMO it was a bust and I'll be going back to normal DexIII.

Under extreme load condititons syn trans fluids will typically lower trans operating temps 15-20*, but to date I've personally never had a trans temp issue weather at the track hot lapping in later rounds nor on the street with the typical abuse it see, so again, I see no flags to justify the added expense of the synthetic stuff, but if cooling the tranny is an issue definately go synthetic.

In the long run the B&M Trick Shift can do damage. It is type "F" modified, and was originally used in transmissions that use asbestos in the clutches. That has not been the case since 1977. For synthetics, I would use Amsoil or Redline. For non-synthetics, Mobil has worked well, AC Delco, and Chevron Dexron III.

Re: B&M trick shift

I ran it in my old 4L60E after I had it rebuilt. Two reasons I didn't like it. The first is that it was blue and it was hard to get used to seeing that on the stick especially with the tranny being rebuilt and I wanted to keep an eye on the color of the fluid. The second was that it doesn't smell like conventional ATF either and that made it more difficult as well. It's a little pricey and honestly I believe it's a waste. DexIII works just fine in my TH400 and everything else I have. No reason to change.
