Anyone else disappointed with Richmond????

Just installed my 4.10 richmonds and I have an awful gear whine. Ive heard worse but mines pretty annoying. I had the backlash set at .004 also. Anyone else feel the same as me or will pretty much all aftermarket gears give a little noise???? I'm gonna deal with it i guess but I gotta get Ion at madz28 to recalibrate for me first. I was reading where someone who had a gear whine swapped to a aluminum D/S and it wasnt as noticeable, anyone know much about that either??

people have said the alum driveshaft works and has less vibrations...the whine is what you get with aftermarket gears, richmond.
I put motive 4:11's in and after 3 track passes they started to whine on me...thats what happens with the crappy GM 10 bolts.

MadZ28 tune is a good choice

Running synthetic gear oil has also been rumored to increase gear noise.

Did you check the contact pattern after the install?

Richmond Gears are know to be noisy due to the cut of the gear teeth. They are competive racing gears and are not ment for a daily driver unless you like the whine. The dr shaft will not help.

Competitive racing gears? I personally don't know anyone who HASN'T broken their Richmond 10-bolt gears. I went Strange, along with a few other friends, and our rears are holding up just fine.

I've been told that putting the car on a rack and running the car in gear so the driveshaft spins, and spraying a rubberized undercoating will help quieten gear whine inside the car some too.

I was also told that any performance gear is going to make a little noise because they are cut and designed to be setup for strength, which makes the contact a little deeper, so they will make a little more noise.

I can hear my 3.42 Strange ProStreets, but they're not bad at all, IMO.
