another 4l60e problem
another 4l60e problem
it just never ends with this car... i was driving to school today in my 1994 trans am and it has a brand new engine and rebuilt transmission,(i had it in overdrive), but i drove it for the first time and what happens, the tranny starts to slip. i didnt even drive it more than 20 miles when i pulled up to a stop sign and it just didnt go, it was stuck into 3 gear, then it would shift to 4 when i got going. when i looked at the dipstick, when it was cool, the level was above the hot mark, would overfilling it have done it in? it seems to only do this when the tranmission is hot, and when i opened hood a bunch of smoke came out. after school was done i drove it home manually shiftingfrom 2nd to 3rd . i have that transmission with only 2 and 3 on the indicator, but anyway the car shifted nicely untill it got warm and it started slipping agian. if i drain out some of the oil while its still early would it save my tranny? any help will be appreciated. like i said i drove to school in overdrive and back home manually shifting 2-3 so i wouldnt know what overdrive would have done while its cold, cause i was just praying to make it home.
Re: another 4l60e problem
The transmission being overful won't cause this. Do you have any SES lights on?
Sounds like someone missed something when they rebuilt your trans. Was it done by someone who specializes in 4L60E's?

yep definately if ur gonna have a 4l60e rebuilt have it done by a pro.. i wasted so much time/money havin mine done locally it finally made me give up completely when it blew again this year after 8 months in a STREET driven car... so now im just putting in a 6 speed cause i found a killer deal on one lol. but urs sounds like its doin somethin similar to what mine was when it blew this time around except it did it all the time.. and it wasnt slipping just dead in neutral =/
