Exclamation Cheapest/strongest replacement for the stock rear end and where to get them ?

I just bought a 2000 Z-28 and the stock rear is howling. Gonna try and put in the GM posi additive but I realllllllly doubt that will fix it. I could fix it but why bother investing in the factory pos 10bolt.

I heard moser was better than strange but where could I find a good deal on one ?

Sort of an oxymoron, "cheapest/strongest".

Your strongest bet would be a 9" built very well, or a 12-bolt.

Other options would be building a 8.8" like the one this guy built (still retains ABS &/ traction control),

I really hate to see people sink money in their 7.5s for the exact reason you're saying.

Best of luck,

Well, I just want to bolt something up without custom work. The car I'm building won't see 6k launches with 600+rwhp so I don't need a Ford 9",etc.

I just want something to hold up to the abuse and will bolt right in. If you can find a 9" that bolts right up I'll buy it but I have a $2500 limit.

I bought a Auburn posi rear out of a 96SS with 3.42's for my 96Z for $400.
I see them for sale from time to time.
Worlds better to me then my old 2.73 LSD. Still a 7.5 inch though.

You can get a new 12-bolt or a 9" for less than $2,500. Moser and Strange both make good stuff. The Strange 12-bolt has a bit better way of mounting the torque arm. I have Moser though and it works fine. I would have gotten a Strange, but the Moser was on the shelf and the Strange was a 6-8 week back order when I needed one. I have used Stange parts for a long time and never had a problem, that's why I preferred it. But as I said, no problems with the Moser.

I've heard the 12 bolt is more efficient than the 9"; ie, it uses less power to turn. never seen any hard data though.

Something else to chew on is the 8.8" is lighter and absorbs less power than both of these. At 8.875" it has the same diameter ring gear as a 12-bolt.
