Aluminum Driveshaft?

Is an Ls1 aluminum driveshaft worth the money? What are the gains in replacing the stock one?

Re: Aluminum Driveshaft?

LOL, what are you expecting to gain? if your stock steel driveshaft is causing a lot of vibrations and you tried the 180* turn method to fix it, then i would probably buy an aluminum DS. thats provided your still making stock power or just a little more than stock.

if your looking for gains in power due to less rotational mass, then i would consider spending my money elsewhere for the time being.

Re: Aluminum Driveshaft?

There are a lot of good reasons to run an aftermarket driveshaft. Getting more HP to the tires isn't one of them.

I replaced MY driveshaft with a Dynotech MMC, but I did it because I was changing to stiffer gears and rebuilding my rear end anyway. Plus of course, I needed new U-Joints and the new driveshaft came with them. Basically, I did it because it was never going to be cheaper or more convenient than at that point.

Re: Aluminum Driveshaft?

I'm in the same boat. My u-joints are screwed and I need a new driveshaft. Why not get an aluminum one?

Re: Aluminum Driveshaft?

Well to answer the questions straight to the point.

Q:Why not get an alluminum one?
A:They don't hold up well if you want to mod your car, they work fine with stock engines but not for powerhouses.

Q:What gains are there?
A:about 1.1 rwhp. I saw a dyno sheet proving it once but can't find it, if i find it i'll post it.

Q: worth the money?
A: in my opinion, a total waste, 1.1 rwhp??? plus it doesn't handle as much as the steel one? totally not worth it.

Re: Aluminum Driveshaft?

Welcome to CamaroZ28.com

Please post in the correct forum. "Driveshaft" questions don't belong on "LT1/LT4 Engine Tech". Moving to "Drivetrain".

The dyno test of the aluminum DS is on WS6.com.
