question about A4 to M6 swap

Hey guys...we just got done doing a A4 to M6 swap...did anybody have a problem using their original drive shaft? I've been told we could use the original drive shaft and we tried...when we slide it into the end of the tranny, it goes in about an inch then stops...is this normal?...the car is a 94 Z28 and the M6 tranny came out of a 94 Z28 also.....

anybody have any input on this?..thanks

I don't know why you are having a problem but the original driveshaft should work fine. I swapped to a M6 on my 94 and used the original driveshaft.

I've been using mine for the last 3 years. No problems.

Are the splines damaged on the output shaft of the tranny? The drive shaft should slip in the tranny at least 4 inches.

Re: question about A4 to M6 swap

Ok...i took the rear seal off the tranny and i noticed what the drive shaft has been hitting....inside the tranny housing there is some type of sleeve with holes and slots in it...it is probably only about 1/16-1/8 thick...it looks like it might be in there to prevent play between the drive shaft and the housing..is that sleeve mandatory to have in there or can it be removed....it's probably only about an 1"-1.5" long.....can anybody tell me what this sleeve is and if i need it..thanks

Re: question about A4 to M6 swap

I wouldn't remove the bushing. I belive it is there to help support the output shaft. If your driveshaft yoke won't fit then you need to find out why and correct it. It takes a little wiggling to get mine in. You might try another driveshaft if you have access to one. If your trans and driveshaft are from 4th generation f bodies it should fit with no problems unless something is damaged. You might be able to get a yoke at a parts house or the dealer. Try it and if it works you would know you have a problem with yours. If it doesn't you could return it.
