95 4L60E Problem

I have a 95 Z28 with 103,000 miles on it...the transmission has been wonderful since I have owned it. (Since 79K) well today I was leaving wal-mart and I pull out and get on it a lil bit to beat a car. Well everything seems fine but the RPM's are climbing and it doesn't shift until I let off. Well then at every light 1st gear is slipping, I will give it gas and the rpm's climb but I go nowhere, then all of a sudden it will catch and begin to move. So I limp home and then find out I have no reverse.

Any ideas on whats wrong? I'm sure it will need to be rebuilt but I dont want to shell out 1k+ if it could be a simple fix.

Thanks

I am not a tranny expert, but that doesn't sound like a simple fix, if it was one of the electronic controls it wouldn't effect forward and reverse gears, and that would be the only thing I would consider to be an easy fix in these trannies...

My guess is a cracked piston (i think that's what it's called), I had one and had some slipping in forward gears and no reverse too, but Frank @ CPT hooked me up...

Forward piston is cracked, and it has "welded" your forward clutches and steels together. The transmission won't have reverse, because the forward clutches are still engaged. Common 4L60E problem. We see it alot. This is why we use the steel input piston set in our "Pro Race" units, and offer it as a $50 option to any other build.
What this all means is it's time for a rebuild
