4L80E Tranny Swap ? ? ?

Hello everyone
I'm new here and I want to try something new.
I found a wrecked 1997 Camaro with an LT1 engine and Trans. I want to swap them out and put them in a 1994 XJS Jaguar. The Jag has a 4L80E tranny
I want to replace a 4L60E trans with the more robust 4L80E trans, I have the option of some adapters to make it bolt up and some mods. My question is ... is the 4L80E compatiable with the electronic sensor needed for the LT1 engine, ECM, etc. ? ? Someone suggested that there may be some sensors that the 4L80E lack for the electronics. Any suggestions ? ?

Has anyone used a 4L80E with a LT1 ? ?

Thanks - Hap

From: NY...what a bad place for a nice car
i will have a LT1 4l80e combo in about 3 weeks
u will need a standalone computer to controll the tranny . TCI makes a decent one

Not many, succefully. Most end up swapping back to a '60E after the weight and HP robbing ability turn their car into a slug. Most cars run right around 2/10's slower in the quarter mile with an '80E. If you don't ever plan on drag racing the car, an '80E is fine, but it's not any better than a properly built '60E! The only thing an '80E belongs in is the truck that pulls a trailer that the car is on...LOL.
Save yourself some money and a whole lot of aggrivation, have the '60E built by a reputable builder.

Thanks for the headup, I did a search here and it seems to be the same. Others I've ask seem to say it a lot of work, money, and stay with the 60E ! ! ! . . . . . So I'll stay with the 60E.

Its just that the 80E was came with the XJS V12, that year(94),in the car. Guess I'll plan on finding a driveshaft that will fit with the 60E.

Thanks - Hap

It all depends on what kind of power your build will be producing. Yes a midly-strongly modified DD, ocassional track, car is fine for a 4l60e. I am doing a m6--4l80e swap currently. Yes it robs more power, just like a Ford 9" as opposed to a stocker 10bolt(weak piece of crap), bigger heavier duty parts take more power to turn. So i assume that your are saying a 60e for cars that run 9.7 and higher. Id buy your 4l60e for $1400 if guaranteed to last with a 454 TT setup 100% replacement for longer than a year. I just think there are jobs for a 4l60e then there are the more extreme projects for the 4l80e. The only thing a 4l80e belongs in is a high powered car that goes to the race track.
I am not bashing your product, just saying the 4l80e is very useful in higher powered "long lasting" race applications.
