4l60e Trans Fluid and capacity.

What kind of fluid does it take? And how many quarts?

Stock converter, if the system is totally dry (nothing in the converter or trans or cooler, I believe it takes 11 quarts.

With my Edge 9.5" converter, dry trans and coolers, it took 10.5.

With just a fluid swap (dropping the pan, changing the filter and putting back together), It's right at 5 quarts I believe.

EDIT: The other question, what kind of fluid... Dexron III Mercon ATF.

Dexron III / Mercon. 13 quarts is about right for a stock 12" converter. We use either Valvoline or NAPA brand in our rebuilds. Make sure you don't use any type of additives.

Yes, a simple fluid / filter change will take around 5 quarts.
