4L60e questions

alright so a while back i posted on here and had a 2-3 shift slippage issue. was told the 3/4 clutch packs are just worn out.

I have a transmission shop with good reveiws that is only like 3 blocks from my appartment. (BG&S transmissions) I'm planning on taking my car there to get the transmission rebuilt since its close.

I want a 'performance rebuild'. Im not real good with transmissions so what parts would i include in this rebuild? What brand of stall should I get? im thinking around 3600 rpm. Should i get a transmission cooler?

Its going in the car in sig. but i will eventually be dropping in an engine that im going to be shooting for 400rwhp with. Will most likely be mostly street driven, with some track time.

Re: 4L60e questions

This is only my .02. Yes, your local shop may be able to build great stock transmissions, but one thing I can assure you about a 4L60E is, not everyone can build a race capable one. Remember that most "generic" shops won't honor a warrantty if the vehicle shows what they consider abuse. You may want to check into a shop that specializes in performance or race 4L60E's.
It's never advisable to tell a builder what you want in your transmission. If they're a capable shop, they should know what to use in it. A transmission builder has to stand behind his work. It's hard for him to do that if you're telling him what parts to put in it. Also wanted to mention. I have a printed build sheet for what parts I use, but what's not on that sheet is buikd procedure. There's quite a few little tricks to a 4L60E that come from the build technique, not just the parts going into it.
3600 may be a little much for the CC304. May want to back down to around 3200.
A trans cooler is ALWAYS a good idea. I recommend the Tru Cool 4490 stacked plate cooler.

Guys, if you are going to have a pissing contest do NOT do it on this board. If your disagreement involves your business relationship take it somewhere else. Same goes for any board related communications in regards to this crap. Such things as telephones, text messages, and private email exist for dealing with your situation.

If an Admin or someone more in the know wants to re-open this post feel free to do it, but I'm closing it.

Ted:

As you can see, it hurt englundjd by having his thread closed. I'm going to delete the offending posts, and reopen.

vesuvius_rising had been warned that he is not to argue this issue on this site. Frank knows what he can and can not do. Offering tech advice is OK. No business. kartracer13 stuck his nose into something that was none of his buisness, and got offended when Frank defended himself. He too will be watched for future problems.

I tried to sort this out last night, but about midnight CamaroZ28.com disappeared from the internet, and I was unable to get a connection.

i think 3600 is a little high for an lt1. Im not sure though, i know 3600 is eprfect for stock or bolt on ls1 cars. lt1s powerband seems to be a little lower though. I wouldnt go bigger then 3600 thats fa sho

I've been dealing with Protorque for 10 years, and then became a distributor when I started CPT in 2005. Great products, customer service, and performance. Protorque holds the record for just about all of the fastest street car guys, as well as both of the fastest NHRA Pro Mods.

ProTorque.com I would suggest you call them and talk about a recommendation for your application.

As for a build sheet. This is what I use in my Pro Race 4L60E's.

Re: 4L60e questions

3600stall is quite common in street LT1s, those who think otherwise are usually not up to date, modern quality converters drive surprisingly well, the low first gear of the 4L60E helps them drive well too, the lockup means they disappear at cruising speeds.

I have a 3800 Edge and Edge is known to drive a little "sloppy" compared to some other brands like Yank. I am very happy with it car launches very well I think it drives fine but I am running a fair bit of compression and large throttle body so the throttle is very touchy. The Edge is only $525 I think, if money were no object I think I would look at Yank next time, very happy with Edge but guy I trust who have used both find the Yank to drive slightly better and MPH higher while maintaining just as good a launch. Yank is a few hundred dollars more.

Vigilante is a good company too.

None of this is to say anything bad about ProTorque, I don't know anything about them, just thought it couldn't hurt to let you know who the other commonly used good companies are.

My car is no longer an all weather daily though I have driven it in the snow with the 3800/4.10 combo.
A friend and his wife daily drive cammed Caprices in Wisconsin, HER'S has a 3200 Edge his a 3400 Edge both are a little on the old side(converters) and converters are constantly advancing so stick with you gut on the 3600stall, if they can daily drive those here you can enjoy that sort of stall in your presumably more fair weather car.

Re: 4L60e questions

BTW, We see MANY failures with vigilante converters. I've seen Vigilantes last as little as 3 months, before the bearings came apart, which destroyed the transmission pump. I've also had Vigilates that were made wrong and wouldn't even fit in the transmission. At one time, the Vigilantes were much better, but we've replaced many of them with either a Protorque or a Yank and seen much better performance.
