4L60E Problem

the other day i was messing around in my car and noticed that when at WOT my car's shifting was kinda slow. see it wouldn't bounce off the rev limiter it sounded like it didn't want to shift out of gear but it would shift to the next gear. see this used to be my dad's daily driver. he did a stock tranny rebuilt in it about 30,000 miles. daily driver. with quite a bit of racing. lol. he thinks as long as the tranny has fluid in it it's good. see the tranny fluid still looks clean doesn't look different color than what it's supposed to look. and one of the tranny lines is kind of leaking a little bit. do you think i should replace the lines and service the tranny or would it be something major internally? need help ASAP. the car is a 94Z A4. 3.23's out back.

From the sounds of it the clutch pack is going. Inbetween what gears does it do it? Usually its the 2-3 shift or the 3-4 shift. My suggestion is to get ahold of Frank at CPT, but I'm sure he will respond to this thread if he sees it.

Hope this helps and I'm sorry to be the one who brings the bad news

do you think if i serviced the tranny with a new filter this might help the problem? i don't think it's getting the appropriate line pressure from the line that is leaking.

It won't hurt anything, but I'm pretty sure the damage is already done. Like I said, I'm sure that Frank will respond to this post and tell you for sure, but this problem is not uncommon but it should be fixed before it gets worse.

just curious, how much hp/tq should a 4l60e handle?i've got minimal mods(air foil, cai, exhaust, etc.)with 2.73's and this will make the third failure in seven years!

Try changing the fluid first. When you get the pan down, check the inside of it for debris, or a fine, black powder. These will be sure signs that something is starting to fail in the transmission. The pan should also have a magnet in it. If there's excessive material on that magnet, you're probably in line for a rebuild.

When we find a limit, we'll let you know 3 transmissions in 7 years? You need to find someone who knows how to build them, that's all.
Check out the "sticky" above, titled "Why we (CPT) don't HP rate our transmissions".
