4l60E late shift

When at wot my car will hit the rev limiter before shifting. It's so bad that it usually will not shift into 3rd. Any ideas?

Please add details of your car - year, model, engine, trans, any major modifications.

1995 z28 lt1 4l60 k&n cai everything else is bone stock. Trans was rebuilt about a year ago but don't know much else about it.

Have heard the tv cable can effect this so I'm going to look into that but otherwise don't know how to fix it other than commanding it to shift in the tune.

Re: 4l60E late shift

There is no TV cable on an electronically shifted 4L60E (1994-2002). Only the non-electronic 4L60 (aka 700R4) used in 1993 needs the TV cable.

If you have access to an OBD-1 scanner, there are codes for the trans that do not turn on the SES light. See Shoebox's LT1-specific code list. OBD-1 trans tab is at the bottom of the page.

First things first: have you checked the trans fluid level?

You know, I actually have not, mostly because I have not had a day off since I bought the car. I havnt even driven it much yet tbh. This weekend is my off weekend so I plan on getting well acquainted with it this weekend.

I'll probably have some newbie type questions for a little bit just because I'm not familiar with the 93-97 platforms so bare with me but I'll give it a check tomorrow. Would be nice if that's all it is though, lol I'm currently looking for a good used laptop so that I can get tunercat.

Re: 4l60E late shift

If this issue has just appeared without any changes to the vehicle, it's most likely the 3-4 clutches starting to go. GM didn't do us any favors with the 4L60E as far as the 3-4 clutch. There are no less than 6 different changes/upgrades/modifications we have to make to get them to stay alive. What you're most likely feeling is a longer apply time, due to wear. This delay in apply will allow the engine to hit the limiter becore the shift is allowed to complete.

Frank!

Haven't seen you around here in years. Is CPT still in business? I seem to remember some sort of family issue pulling you away some years ago, but I could easily be misremembering or misattributing.

Actually, I went through some health issues several years back. I took a couple years away from CPT during that time, but I've been back at it for over 5 years now. We've restructured many things since that time. Back then, CPT was being ran as a side business in tandem with my 40 hour a week job, building for another local shop. That's all changed and CPT is a full time shop now. Business has been beyong belief and we've got a lot of great things going on here.
