TV cable-Late shift

TV cable-Late shift
I had my 700R4 rebuilt. After install, it will shift around 4,000 RPM and you MUST hit gas pedal to floor (kind of like a clutch pedal). This is how it shifts from 1-2, 2-3 and 3-OD. I tried different positions with the TV cable and no difference no matter which way I go. Someone suggested to change the TV cable as it is bad. If this is so, what goes bad in them? The adjuster mechanism? Or is it likely some issue within the transmission? I have a 1986, 305 TPI.

Re: TV cable-Late shift
Very informative information. Pretty much the same setup for my year since the instructions/manual you supplied is somewhat general and not dealing with any specifics.
Turns out my TV cable was bad, though that wasn't evident while it was on the car. The adjuster area was apparently detached from the cable, making the adjustor inoperative though that was unseen while installed to the throttle, if you can imagine that. It was likely in a "too tight" position as the late shift is apparently a consequence of that. (Perhaps it was "injuneered" to be that way in case of TV cable issues so a shift would finally take place even if late so as to not to burn something up.) Thanks for the help.
