4.56 gear in a 10 bolt (auto or manual) will not last very long at all. that is prolly why u dont see too many people with them.

Cmr0z28 and ibanez6rg, while it appears like you guys are messing around with each other, it is a bit excessive for the Tech forum. Please keep it in email. Thanks!

No, because that **** gets old quick and it's not helpful.

As far as gear ratios go, for 93 an M6 came with 3.23 gears while an auto generally came with 2.73 unless ordered with a performance rearend with the 3.23 ratio. For 94-97 the M6 cars came with 3.42 gears to help with shifting gears with the CAGS that was installed in the cars. Autos pretty much remained unchanged except that the performance axel also went to 3.42.

For me, the 3.42 factory gears seem to be the best all around gear for either a 6 speed or an auto.

All of this is correct, with the except of the 94 and up cars getting a 3.42 ratio in the automatics. The available rear end gear ratios for 94 and above A4 are 2.73 and 3.23. 3.42 was the only ratio available on the M6 94 and above, with 3.23 the only ratio available on the M6 in 93. However, due to the slightly steeper first gear transmission ratio, the overall final drive ratio of the 93 and 94+ cars is actually the same.

Some of you six speed guys oughta try something b4 you diss it!! 4.56 is a great gear for a six speed car. yea you will have to shift into 5th in a quarter but if your pushing enuff power with 4.10's you will to considering there is only 5 mph diff. ALTJAR (sp) is running 4.30's in a 12 bolt and run what was it a 11.95?? Hmm and as far as the 120 in sixth thing wow boy are you wrong i can do 150 in 5th. the 4.56s woke my car up majorly, and havent had any break on me yet. As for the spinning part 315/35 is made for that.

2.73's were also available for the '93 M6's. They had a 3.36 first gear ratio. True about the A4's. 3.42 was never offered for them.

Huh, I always thought 3.23 was the only ratio on M6 for 93s. Guess you learn something new every day!

Not sure why you feel obligated to butt in and criticize the Moderator for doing his job. The exchange of comments was not appropriate to the thread, was detracting from someone else's effort to get a little help, and are recurring in other threads - this isn't the only one.

If you have a problem with the way a forum is moderated, you have complete freedom, per the published rules you were required to read before you signed on, to e-mail a complaint to the Administrators, or to the Moderator. But this isn't the way to handle it.

I know this crap doesn't belong here, I didn't know it would get out of hand mentioning that, "My buddy has/had 4.56s in his 6 speed."

The only other time this happened was in his own thread and I was just getting back at him for what he did here.

I envy both Fred & Brent for what they do and their knowledge, I can understand why they addressed this.

To keep it on topic, I would go no lower than 3.73s in an auto and 4.10s in a manual. 4.10s are fun, but only for drag, not daily driving.

I have a 94 LT1 A4 with 4.10's and they are awesome. I was able to bust out a 1.93 60' with those gears. I had 2.73's stock and it made a world of difference. A4's really need better ratios and 4.10s are the best.

With 4.56s you can do 150 in 5th gear??? And I was being sarsctic about 120...my buddy can only do (I think) 145mph. He also has 315/35s and spins them down. But were not talking about a stock z either.

No, because it doesn't belong in this thread, and in fact, this thread doesn't even belong in this forum. It belongs in the DRIVETRAIN forum, where that last 50 or so posts about gears were moved to.

Eh...what's one more?
