3400 Yank too big...

I have done a search and some research, but I still have a few questions. My car is a 1994 TA with 3.23s and bone stock. I have found a Yank 3400 stall convertor used by a friend for about 500 miles. He is going to sell it to me for 250.00

My question is, will this stall be too big for the street. This stall will be going into a 550rwhp built tranny (4L60-E). And yes I know about the high stall no shift problem, but I would just get Bryan at pcmforless.com to tune it for me.

So is this like what I think and just too good of a deal to pass up? Thanks guys.

Well i'll give you a TTT.......And what little I can give you, the LS1 a 3400 is no problem for a daily driver. On youre LT1 you have some major HP!! So I guess what you need to tell us is,what are you looking for a 1/4mi only car, daily driver with some track use or some type of auto-x, if you are going the 1/4 route you can go big like a 4200 stall, but for the daily driver route the 3400 stall should be ok, but i'm not 100% on these stalls on the LT1's, they work great on the LS1's, I know they are pretty similar to each other (4l60-e in both cars) but I think I rember reading the LT1's don't like as much stall as the LS1's.....I could be wrong though

I can't tell you if this converter will do what you want, but be aware that if it stalls at 3,400 behind a stock motor, it will stall a lot higher behind a motor with twice the hp of stock.

So basically what you are saying RSKrause: is that this should be fine for the stock motor, but when I start modding it might not be so good for a street/strip car???

This car is my daily driver, but I only drive it like 15 miles round trip a day. And yes it is a street/strip car. I figured if I am cruising around an auto, I might as well do the stall/3.73 gears. I found a guy here in Texas that will install my torque convertor, get me 3.73 GM genuine gears, install kit, and fluids for the TC and gears plus install of everything for 500.00

He said he was running a bone stock 95 TA with just a 2800 stall and 3.42 gears with street tires to 8.6 in the 1/8

Sort of. What I was trying to say is that a converter that stalled at 3,400 behind a stock motor will stall a lot higher behind your motor. I can't say if the stall will be "too high" or not. It depends what you are after and on your own likes/dislikes. I find my 4,200 stall tolerable for casual driving but would find it annoying in heavy stop and go type traffic for any length of time. But your tastes/preferences may vary.
