Why not do 3.90s or 3.73s?

So as to not go into OD in the 1/4? If that's the case, then why not get a 28" DR instead?

Yes, that's what people do in their 4.10 A4s to keep that from happening. Lets you run those gears plus helps traction with taller sidewalls.
