3.23 to 3.73 swap?

I got a set of 3.73's out of an S10 blazer today at the junk yard, they're in pretty good condition... main question is am I going to need a ring gear spacer? Since they're the same series carrier they should just drop right in, correct?

Well then, another question, are there any downsides to using GM gears as opposed to double-priced aftermarket gears? I really don't see how there really could be much.

Well, I do believe useing GM gears if installed right they will not howl like aftermarkets (which occasionally do not howl). I do not know if there is a difference myself.

The 3.73:1 pinion you pulled out, does it still have the bearing(with shim underneath it)on it? that shim would be your starting point for 'pinion depth'
I prefer blazer used 3.73 gears over aftermarket used 3.73 gears.

Yeah, it's still got the bearing. Not sure about the shim, I would assume so though. We'll be putting the gears in this weekend. A buddy of mine has done it twice, but for a solid install, is there a guide to proper procedure?

Thanks for that, I found another guide out there and they mesh pretty well together. I'm just going to need a bit more instruction on setting backlash and pinion depth... I'll keep reading on
