Re: **** B&M v.s transgo shift kit

Most people on here seem to recommend the Trans-go kit, but I know that Frank from CPT actually discourages against the Trans-go and prefers the B&M. Don't know if that means much to you? I've got a B&M kit that I've had for 2 seasons now, and the tranny seems to work fine and give a nice "kick" into 2nd, and a quick, clean shift into 3rd. I got the B&M "Trans Pak", not just the "shift improver" kit, FWIW.

Re: **** B&M v.s transgo shift kit

I installed the Transgo Shift kit yesterday... customized by Dana. That and my new yank 2800 converter 8) 1-2 now is very crisp. We used only 1 spacer. ALL shifts at WOT are awsome now! I've heard the B&M up's line pressure instead of replacing parts (not sure if this is the Trans Pak or the shift improver kit though) which results in harder shifts everywhere even using light throttle. The Transgo replaces all sorts of parts to maintain nice crisp shifts part throttle and much harder shifts WOT.

I only drove it a bit yesterday but today I'll get some more driving in during the day. More updates to come

i used the transgo and ive never had experience with B&M but when installing the kit theres so many things you can do to it that i dont see why you would buy anything else... again ive never had experience with a B&M

I should also add that i had the Corvette Servo recommended to me by Dana to help with the 1-2 shifts. You can really feel 1-2 because of that.

BTW. My mechanic specializes in transmissions and put the transgo in for me, he also said the same thing - B&M doesn't do the right thing for the Tranny logevity wise when compared to Transgo.

Re: **** B&M v.s transgo shift kit

After driving around a bit today I really like all the shifts but 1-2 is bit hard when just doing medium throttle for me. I think i'll even program the shifts down a bit.

Honda I think the only real difference might be our converters? You have a yank 3500 and I have a 2800... maybe that has something to do with it?

Re: **** B&M v.s transgo shift kit

Here's a little tip for all of you. ALL LT1/LS1 F-Bodies come from the factory with a "Corvette" servo! If anyone tries to sell you one for one of these cars, they obviously don't know what they're talking about, or they're trying to rip you off!
I've got a box full of about 45 "Corvette" servos. They're certainly NOT the best way to go. We only use Fairbanks billet servos in our Race and Pro Race builds.

Aas far as Trans-Go vs. B&M. If you want to cook a transmission, go with the TG. If you want it to last, go with the B&M. I've tried every part, update, and idea in a 4L60E since 1993. I know what works, and I know what burns them up.

Re: **** B&M v.s transgo shift kit

I'm just going to list some facts/background about my shiftkit install:
-My mechanic rebuilt my trans a few years ago (It's been runing great since). At the time Dana recommended that if I don't have a corvette servo in there I should get one.
-I called my mechanic (a close relative of a close friend of mine) up so that he could verify if I had that servo already in my rebuilt tranny. He was very sure I didn't. So I ordered it.
-My mechanic strongly recommended Transgo over B&M. His specialty is transmissions as well.
-Dana recommended the same thing.
-Unlike most mechanic/customer relationships, I've done just as many favors for him (my mechanic) as he has for me. He's has no reason to want to rip me off. I could just as easily do the same thing to him. It would be unfortunate if he was.
-While doing the test drive he goes "That servo really made 1-2 quite a bit harder" in line what Dana had told me over the phone.
-I did not see both servos out side by side. BUT I swear it looked different when I looked at the old part out of the car.
-I asked my mechanic after the servo's were out if they were indeed different (because I was well aware of several posts already saying that the trans on Z28's came w/ that servo.
-My 1-2 shifts were not as hard as they used to be before the rebuild when the trans was still stock.

I'm pretty sure I did not have the servo in there since my rebuild based on the facts above.
So just to stick up for Dana, I feel that his recommendation was fair. He did not try and push the servo on me but rather asked to make sure that I didn't already have it by checking with my transmission rebuilder.

I also don't see why any transmission builder would risk their client relationship over a silly 20$ servo.

Re: **** B&M v.s transgo shift kit

I was also recommended to the transgo by a transmission specialist. He said the big problem is everyone thinks oh this is supposed to make it harder so lets take it to the extreme because thats the best. Which is wrong obviously and what was wrong with my old transgo that was installed by the previous owner.
