Tranny questions

I traded for a 96 Z28 that the tranny is gone in. Start it up, put it in gear, its fine for about 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, it's like there are no gears at all. Nothing. Figure something is fried in it. Here's my questions. What all years are a bolt in replacement for it? I see 4L60E's in all kinds of vehicles and so forth, but not sure what the differences are. Will any of the 93-97 LT1 camaro tranny's work? What about the tranny's in a 2WD pickup? What did the LT1 Caprice's/Police cars/etc have in them? I'm trying to find out what options I have. I'm probably just going to fix the car and sell it, seeing as how I have too many toys as it is. Thanks for your info!

Re: Tranny questions

Need a tranny from a 95-97 fbody. 93's are 4L60s and 94 have different lock ups on the torque converter.

Re: Tranny questions

Why go through all the hassle of trying to find a compatible unit? We can build yours for only a few more dollars than you'll spend on a used one. Buying a used 4L60E isn't a really good idea, anyway. These transmissions were plagued with design problems. Unfortunately when they're rebuilt by "generic" transmission builders, many of thos areas are overlooked.

Thanks,
Frank
