Doesn't sound too bad I suppose? Figure gear sets are around ~$200, so they're charging ~$300 for labor. Allow about ~4 hrs for the re & re, that's $75/hr shop rate. Sound fair to you?? I dunno .......

$75 an hour is about standard for shop labor. I am pretty much against paying a shop more money then the part costs. Then again it is much better to have someone to blame.

A good install kit will cost you another $50-125 over the cost of the gears.

For everything, that sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I paid $120 for a deluxe kit which has everything you need to completely over haul the rear end including axle bearings, and seals from Ratech. If your gonna go to all the trouble of pulling your axles installing your gear properly then an overhaul would be a good investment. Unless you have a low mile car in which car you can save some bucks and skip the wheel bearing, and seals.

Some companies offer a mini install kit with the purchase of thier gears, and some other just the bare bones install kit for well under $50

With a ratech kit like godspeed got and a set of 2 serious richmond 3.73s it costed me $350 for parts, so you figure your paying 150 for labor thats not bad.

I ended up paying 440 all said and done. 190 for gears & install kit, and they charged me 250 to put them in.

I agree it will take a good bit of time to set everything double check everything, and make sure its right. Atleast 3 hours to do it if your good (Like Kelinte, and I dont mean good looking like her ) So for $150 your getting a deal on labor, or the shaft on a poor install.

Personally if I was gonna pay someone to do it I would find a hardcore racer to do it and show me while they do it. Someone who runs ProMod or Outlaw. You KNOW they will get it right, and have done it many many many times before as opposed to some guy making minimum wage at Al's Repair shop. Just my .02

That is a really good price. I paid 160 for my gears brand new, an install kit will be around 120, I am going to get the main stud girdle and a rear end cover so that is about another 150 and then the guy who is going to do mine is going to charge me 200 bucks just for labor.

Total bill: 630.00

I know this guy will do a good job. Almost every f body in town has had their gears put in by him. Most of them are all 4.10's and all of them are running drag radials with no problems whatsoever. I would rather pay more money for some quality work.

It's never a good price if it isn't done right.

Unless you do it yourself, in which case it's free . So if something's screwed up, you only have yourself to blame, but you got what you paid for!!

For how often I've had gears in and out of my car, I couldn't afford to keep paying somebody to do it!
