Post TH-350 and TH-400 Users Lend Me Your Ear

I am getting ready to make the conversion here, and I have a few questions.

Firstly, I know shifters are 99% preference. Are there any that seem to work better if you are keeping the council in the car? How much hogging did you have to do? Pics woudl rock!

Did you have to run braided return lines and scrap all the stock stuff. It certainly appears that way, and want to make sure I know what I'm up against before I crack her open. I still have a few months before I get on this, and it will probably turn into a winter project really.

Thanks in advance for whatever info or pics you can post here.

I use a long style tranny cooler and braided steel hose. The best shifter IMO is the turboaction shifter. I can give you a rundown of what is needed and I can sell you all the parts.

I use a B&M Pro-Ratchet, mounted in my original M6 console, with no modifications. I even leave the boot on for street driving, and pull it off for the track to make the gear position indicator visible.

Also drove the TurboAction Cheetah in another car, and really liked it.... probably a "future" mod.

I have a cooler with fan tucked up in the front fender (where the typical CAI filter would end up). Braided lines to and from.

Just a thought for the sneaky people, has anyone tried using the stock shifter? Im thinking you could just use the PRND32 and not use the 1st gear. Even put the first gear selector restrictor(whatever it is) back in to keep from trying to go too far. Anyone tried this? I think it would be better to keep that 'stock' look dont you think? If that doesnt work, Ill just order a pro stick, and attempt to make it look semi factory.

Pull the line fittings out of your 4l60 and screw'm into the TH400 - then you can use your stock lines. You may have to tweak the lines a bit, but they will work.

I went with a B&M Megashifter. I hacked the top of the consol lid and screwed the boot down over it.

I have the B&M Pro Stick in the stock console with NO cutting (some minor underside grinding, and some grinding on the gate plate).
Check the second link for pictures.

Kyle, the stock shifter would be OK for cruising, but most guys usually run a manual valve body, and the stock shifter has NO positive stops. So if you wanna shift manually, the stocker isnt a good idea.

Yea, I figured that was the deal. Im getting a z-gate with my turbo 400, and dont really want to fit that in the car, but ill put it in there temporarilly untill I can get a pro stick and a 97+ console.

Thumbs up

Fred I like the look of yours very nice. Thats exactly how i was wanting to do my Z. I think it looks good using the factory boot.

I assuming i could mount it the same way in the Z28 Console?

I'm using the turbo action shifter. Pics here: http://turbocharged.net/twinturbo/shifter/

I'm also using an external tranny cooler mounted to the front of my intercooler. I'm using -6AN lines. No biggy. There are a few pics here: http://turbocharged.net/twinturbo/Installation10/

Good luck~

I bought the Pro-Ratchet used from George B. when he went to the Cheetah. The Pro-Ratchet fit into his 97 SS M6 console the same way it fits into mine. I think I even have his old boot somewhere, with the slit for the reverse lockout.... .

I am leaning towards the Pro Action shifter right now, but I am stil looking.

Hopefully the tranny will go in next month. Whether or not she makes it to the track remains to be seen.
